The Massachusetts Institute of Technology engaged in a reengineering of its facilities management organization and reviewing the overall status of facilities capital renewal. At the request of the Director of Physical Plant, HHK met with senior staff to outline alternative methods of introducing a facilities capital renewal program to measure the extent of deferred maintenance, determine ongoing capital renewal needs, and to develop a program for support of facilities funding. In addition, HHK provided guidance on a shift to a zone maintenance management system and methods for evaluating performance.
HHK consulting outlined an overall communications strategy for the capital renewal program. A direct result was the launching of a comprehensive facilities condition assessment program as a component of the Institute’s strategic plan.
